Who?
Jake Richard - Freelance web designer
I’m a freelance web designer living & working in Skipton, close to the Yorkshire Dales national park. I have over 20 years commercial web design experience, & have been developing websites as a specialism since I graduated with a 2:1 design degree in 1999.
I have moved through a whole heap of different web technologies in my career, currently specialising in WordPress & WooCommerce.
Starting off from a background designing interactive CD-ROM’s (remember those)? & producing music for computer games, I have since worked on hundreds of websites & multimedia projects. From small website design projects for individuals & local businesses through to large web portals & eCommerce sites for multinational companies such as Proctor & Gamble, Cussons & The BBC.

Background
I began my freelancing career in digital design in 2000.
As the internet as a commercial platform was relatively new at the time, sending out speculative emails to companies quickly generated work for me & my first projects were for some of the worlds best known brands: CD-ROM development for Adidas, the BBC & Sony, & websites for SC Johnson & Procter & Gamble.
All produced in my tiny home based office in Skipton…
Coming from a background playing the guitar, I write & compose music. In 2001 I uploaded some of my music online which happened to be heard by a video editor working for SKY TV. I was commissioned to compose music & soundbites for a new TV series they were creating.
I went on to produce music for many national broadcasters & corporates including the BBC, Sky, Computer Arts magazine, Adidas, Sony & Playboy, building websites during the day & making music into the early hours.
I enjoy sharing knowledge & have taught web design, animation, video production & photography at further education level to a wide range of students from young people to mature students.
In addition to loving all different aspects of design, I’m afraid I’m also a bit of a technical geek.
